From a visionary idea to global leadership

The history of Orion begins in 1967, at Congonhas Farm, in Rancho Alegre, Paraná. Mr. Honorato Rodrigues da Cunha, the farm owner, faced a major challenge: after eradicating a coffee plantation to plant soybeans, the remaining soil pests threatened to make the new crop unviable.

It was in this challenging scenario that his son, Ricardo (Mr. Ricardo Rodrigues da Cunha), at just 15 years old, had an idea that would change the course of Brazilian agriculture. Passionate about mechanics, he created the first Brazilian equipment for applying liquid products directly into the planting furrow, aiming to combat soil pests. Unknowingly, Ricardo was ahead of his time, developing something that would revolutionize the way biological solutions are applied in agriculture.

With the support of his father, who gave him complete freedom to spend whatever was necessary to solve the problem, Mr. Ricardo began developing the equipment, constantly improving and testing it on the family farms. For years, he dedicated himself to the project, and the machine underwent numerous modernizations to adapt to new challenges and the products emerging in the market.

It took 40 years for Mr. Ricardo's invention to gain the attention of the industry. When the first nematicides began to appear, the machine caught the interest of major companies. One of them was looking for a solution to apply the product to the soil, and Mr. Ricardo had exactly what they needed. It was then, one night in 1999, that he received the call that would change his life: the company wanted to buy the machine he had created.

In 1999, with the success of his invention, Ricardo founded Orion, which, from the beginning, had the mission of transforming Brazilian agriculture. Mr. Ricardo's invention enabled the large-scale use of biological products, replacing chemicals and promoting more sustainable agriculture, with economic, social, environmental, and agronomic benefits.

Today, Orion is a market leader in Brazil and Latin America, providing equipment that ensures the efficient and precise application of bioinputs. What started as a solution to a farm problem turned into a story of success and vision, expanding globally and establishing Orion as a global reference in sustainable agriculture.
